Are you a new sports mom, or just looking to make this aspect of your life easier? As you likely know, getting out the door and to your destination, seems to be one of the craziest times of the day as a mom. And when you’re a sports mom, there seems to be so many more things that need to make it out the door with you. Even if you’re on time, or feel like you’ve got it all together, this time of gathering the kids and all the things can be extremely chaotic. Being a sports mom should be enjoyable and exciting. So, I’m sharing my five tips to make life as a busy sports mom more organized and less stressful.

1. Keep as much as you can in your car

  • The best sports mom wagon (see details below)
  • This trunk organizer, which keeps things tidy and easily accessible. We fill ours with a first aid kit, blanket, snacks, small toys, baby wipes, an umbrella or two, sunscreen/bug spray. Basically, all the things you may need but probably won’t realize until you’re there. Keeping them in the car means they will always be readily available should you end up needing them.
  • Portable chairs, because bleachers are the worst! These chairs are amazing. They don’t require a bag to carry them, have excellent reviews, and rock, which is a huge plus if you’re trying to keep your littles calm during their siblings’ games.

2. Have a grab and go sports station

Utilize this space for things you don’t want to keep in the car, such as dirty cleats and equipment, and water bottles you will need to wash and refill.

Ideally this is set up somewhere on the way to the car. It can be something simple, like a command utility hook in the mud room to hold their bag and a rubber mat for dirty cleats. Or you can use something like this garage sports equipment organizer. Want something more stylish? How cute and fun is this retro metal storage locker for the home! You can even label one for each child and let them decorate it.

3. Have designated sports water bottles

It’s time to gather stuff and go out the door, only you can’t find your child’s water bottle. Did they leave it at school? In their room? The living room? The backyard? I can’t be the only one who seems to have this struggle, right? After way too many times of this frustrating situation, we now have designated water bottles for sports. Which means these are not taken all over the house or to school or to a friend’s house. We use these Under Armour bottles. They are large enough to not have to refill during the game, are reasonably priced, and come in many different color options. I put my kids’ names on them, so they each have their own.

4. Keep uniform pieces together after washing

Laundry is an unavoidable part of motherhood. And if you’re a sports mom, this means extra laundry and items to keep track of. To help you not lose any uniform pieces, after washing, put your child’s uniform back together and store everything in a bin designated for it. These storage bins come in a 5 pack and are ideal if you have multiple children. They are also collapsible, so easy storage when not using. On game days lay out their uniform with school/day clothes to ensure everything is ready to go and you’re not scrambling to make sure all the pieces are there right before needing to leave for gametime.

5. Use a wagon

Whether your kids are playing baseball or soccer, or another sport, there is one thing they all have in common, you always have to bring so much stuff-equipment, snacks, blankets, chairs, etc.! We got this wagon when we began t-ball and we have used it so much more than I ever realized we would. It never fails, parking is always a nightmare and having a wagon makes this long walk much easier. Just throw everything in your wagon and go. Trust me, your arms and back will thank you. Plus, this wagon doubles a bench. Once you get where you’re going, just unload and unzip the side. This is so handy and can eliminate the need for bringing small chairs for your littles. It has a 150-pound weight limit, making it ideal for carrying all the sports things and/or your children. It is seriously amazing! We have used ours for so many baseball and soccer games, as well as community events and outings, for over three years and it’s holding up great. It’s one of the main things I am most thankful to have as a busy sports mom.

Watching our kids play a sport they love is one of the greatest joys of life. Or maybe you’re watching your child pick flowers in the outfield. Either way, I hope these tips help you feel more organized and able to better enjoy this special time in your life.
